QuickBooks Error Codes 6150 and 1006

What Does Error Code -6150, -1006 Mean?

Relating to Intuit, QuickBooks Error 6150 and 1006: “An error occurred when QuickBooks attempted to create, open, or make use of the company file” is an error which includes multiple possible causes.  The possible causes include:

  • your business file (.qbw) is damaged and you also were wanting to backup or create a portable file (.qbm)
  • your QuickBooks installation is damaged
  • you had been attempting to open a portable file (.qbm) but QuickBooks wasn’t open
  • the QuickBooks company file extension was changed or is not the right type
  • you were wanting to restore a QuickBooks for Macintosh backup file in QuickBooks for Windows

The steps to eliminate this error range from reviewing the extension of your company file, verifying your business file, repairing your QuickBooks installation, or re-installing QuickBooks.
